John's hypertextual youth Why? Who? How? Really? Leave this self-indulgent tangle!

After leaving behind formal lessons and exams, my musical experience continued schizophrenically. Colin got me interested in the Moody Blues, just in time for their inactive phase. I went to see Abba: The Movie, in secret. Our own band, Solution, released its ninety-minute tape Resolution. I started work on my first musical, based on Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress. This I later abandoned and wrote a musical, Pinner's Moor, about wartime Sheffield, instead. The Pilgrim's Progress had a tune which, several years later, I recognized echoes of in The Phantom of the Opera. Since my tune had been heard by a total of about six people, I conclude that I'm either over-influenced by Lloyd Webber to the extent that I can anticipate him, or that sometimes melodies based on chords (which, unlike most of his stuff, The Phantom of the Opera mostly is) fall into stereotypical patterns.
